                                      Search Engine Marketing

Search Engine Marketing has been the fastest growing advertising medium in the last couple years. Search Engine Marketing is the payment for appearing high on the list of sponsored search results for a particular keyword that the search engine user searches for. The spots on the list are sold to the highest bidder, and the payment to the search engine depends on the amount of clicks the advertisement gets.

One site that can be used to market your product using search engine marketing is Google Adwords.

                                      Evaluating The Return

For typical direct-to-consumer situations, you need to first find the clicks to customer percentage. Then take that number and divide it by the cost per click to get the number of customers per dollar. Then you need to multiply the number of customers per dollar times the value of the customer gets a Return on Marketing (ROM) number to compare with other search words and other alternative marking expenditures.

For Typical B2B situations, the calculation are the same as the equation above, except "clicks per customer" percentage obtained by multiplying the percentage of clicks that become qualified sales leads  and the percentage of qualified leads that become customers after the sales force calls on them.
